Hand-cut sandstone paving and hand-cut limestone paving
Hand-cut sandstone and limestone paving stones are ideal for patios, paths and driveways. Less precise than machine-cut alternatives, hand-cut stone paving generates a more characterful, natural feel outside the home. Hand-cut sandstone paving and hand-cut limestone paving are hard-wearing and weather well.
What do we mean by hand-cut paving?
Creating a hand-cut finish involves splitting the top of a piece of stone, cutting it into sizes, then manually dressing the sides of the stone with a hammer and chisel. This technique provides a rough, textured look and results in varied thicknesses to create a more natural aesthetic.
Should I choose hand-cut sandstone or hand-cut limestone?
Hand-cut limestone paving stands up well to the British climate, and can provide a flatter, smoother finish than sandstone. Limestone has a surface similar to orange peel and Stone Traders feature tumbled finishes on three of our limestone products: Tandur limestone, Cuddapah Black limestone and Kota Blue limestone. Once hand-cut, the stone is subtly aged by a tumbling action with pebbles to deliver a rough, pitted surface with broken, rounded edges and corners. This results in an authentic, antique appearance for a more ‘lived in’ look.
Our hand-cut Indian sandstone comes in a greater range of colours, all with that distinctive and rugged riven surface.
