Cobbles, cobblestones or setts have been firm favourites in Britain for centuries. Regularly used in creating paved areas they can be an attractive solution on pathways and driveways.  Each cobble is a small stone rounded by the flow of water – essentially making it a large pebble.  Cobbles can be used for both light-use constructions (paths, patios and landscape features) as well as heavy-use pavements (drives, forecourts and roadways).

There are several ways in which cobbles can be laid to create different effects including: ‘randomly’, ‘flat parallel’ and ‘coursed’.  The finishes of ‘randomly’ and ‘flat parallel’ are self-explanatory.  ‘Coursed’ is where the cobbles need to be sorted into similar sizes and then laid in true straight lines that are either longitudinal or transverse.

Cobbles are the ideal material for creating a garden feature and can also be laid in diagonal, hexagonal or circle shapes.
